Rogue Gallery – IT’S CHIBI TIME!
Hey Casters, Bats here! Going to try and start doing a series on Rogue spellbooks that are both fun to play casually and competitively. This time we are diving into the wonderful world of Metazoo Chibi beasties! With the right set up, these lil guys can be an immortal swarm that’s annoying to deal with due to vast amounts of resiliency. So here’s the Rogue Gallery for some Metazoo Chibi spellbooks!
The bread and butter of what makes Chibi’s solid and annoying to deal with is Chibi Playground: “Prevent the first Damage dealt to each Beastie with “Chibi” in its name each turn.” on top of giving them 10LP/10DMG (which stacks if you have both!). This means that each Chibi can attack a beastie, and take no damage when their target attacks back. It also means that if your opponent is targeting you or another beastie, you can defend with one or multiple Chibis and reduce the damage the target would take by the maximum Life Points of each Chibi (down to 0)!
The first Metazoo Chibi spellbook I’m going to talk about is all about making a wall of Chibis so that you can stall long enough to contract Grim Reaper for a wincon.
Grim’s Moth Army(40):
2x Chibi Mothman
1x Chibi Grim Reaper
1x Grim Reaper
1x Promo Mothman
4x Sinister Shadows
4x Death Beam
2x Bookmark
1x Powerup Red
1x New Years New Beginnings
5x Anti-Potion Potion
2x Chibi Parade
2x Borne From the Earth
2x Chibi Playground
2x Overgrown City
10x Dark Aura
The goal is to use Sinister Shadows to make an Immortal wall of Chibi Mothman who will stay alive even if their Life Points reach 0 thanks to the Immortal Trait. Chibi Parade should make sure you’re able to get your Chibi’s very early in the game. With this wall you can defend your Life Points and chip away at opponents Beasties; once you have both Chibi Playground’s active, the regular Chibi Mothmans will have 30LP/30DMG and each shadow will have 25LP/30DMG. With this Immortal wall and the help of Overgrown City you should be able to stall long enough to contract Grim Reaper. Another bonus is using the CN Blister Mothman to inflict Scared on all Beasties your Opponent Contracts, which also gets a boost in damage from Overgrown City.
Another option is to go a little more aggressive while still enjoying the benefits of Chibis defending for you.
Chibi Defense Force(40):
2x Chibi Mothman
1x Chibi Grim
6x Napa Rebobs
1x Promo Mothman
4x Sinister Shadows
4x Death Beam
4x Smokey Spirits
2x Bookmark
1x Powerup Red
1x New Years New Beginnings
2x Chibi Parade
1x Borne From the Earth
2x Chibi Playground
10x Dark Aura
Napa Rebobs are also boosted by Chibi Playground since it’s a Suburban Terra, so Napa Rebobs will be hitting for +25 while your chibis are able to soak up any damage coming their way. Since Sinister Shadow Tokens come in awakened, Smokey Spirits seemed appropriate for an extra layer of defense. Lightning in a Bottle or other Pages can fill those spots if you see fit though. Thanks Lead for the inspiration!
Side Deck Options:
The main weakness for Chibi’s is obviously going to be board wipes such as Flood the Earth. There are a few good options to either save your Chibi’s, or bring them back from the grave all together!
- Broom : gives a beastie Flight, so you could protect something from Flood
- Necromancy : let’s you put a beastie back into your Spellbook from Limbo
- Chibi Bunnyman : similar to necromancy and searchable by Chibi Parade
- Void Spell : negate a Destroy Terra and save your Chibi Playground
Thanks for taking the time to read! Chibi’s are very close to being a serious competitive deck in my opinion. I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with! I’ll see ya in my next article!

Going to try this deck this weekend! Super pumped for it ! Thank you
Great article, excited to see the gameplay meta start to spread out, keep up the awesome work!
Very fun idea for a deck! I could see this giving some meta decks trouble if they’re not prepared for it!
I couldn’t agree more, chibis have a lot of options and it’s only a matter of time before we see a chibi take in the finals of a tournament. I personally like forest chibis like chibi Cumberland Dragon for its ability to ramp aura and help you contract large threats earlier.
I agree! Allegedly there’s going to be a chibi mini set with a lot of cards. I can see something like that making chibis even more viable.
Also agreed on that! Very good aura ramp.
I’d love to see chibi growth have some more options as well, it’s a fun mechanic and reminds me of evolving
